From hands-on fermentation workshops to plant-based feasts in mountain homes, this journey is about more than food—it’s about connection, community, and culture.

🌱 Why Yunnan for a Vegan Trip?

Yunnan is a paradise for plant-based travelers. Thanks to its incredible biodiversity, ethnic culinary diversity, and rich farming traditions, vegetables, mushrooms, wild herbs, and tofu-based dishes are at the heart of daily life here. In many local kitchens, meat was never the main dish to begin with.

Even better, this journey is designed by Leo, the founder of Yunnan Eco Tours, who has been plant-based for 6+ years and works closely with a wide network of vegan-aware farmers, chefs, families, and artisans across Yunnan. You’ll experience the full depth of Yunnan’s vegan-friendly culture—from village kitchens to forest tables.

Sample 2 Day Itinerary
(from a 7-Day Trip)

While our tours can always be customized to fit your schedule, we recommend a 7–14 day journey for a truly in-depth Yunnan experience.

Day 1

Visit a vibrant ethnic farmer’s market in the morning
Explore colorful stalls in a Bai or Yi minority town where fresh produce, foraged greens, and homemade snacks fill the air with aroma. Watch locals trade tofu, wild fungi, herbal bundles, and heirloom grains.

Plant-based lunch with a local family
Enjoy a traditional home-cooked vegan meal using seasonal vegetables, homemade fermented sauces, and village-grown rice.

Hands-on soy sauce or fermented tofu workshop
Learn how to make naturally brewed soy sauce or preserved tofu the old way—salt, time, patience, and sunlight.

Wild mushroom or mountain veggie hotpot
End the day with a beautiful, all-vegan hotpot filled with forest mushrooms, mountain greens, and hand-pulled tofu skin, simmered in herb-infused broths.

Day 2

Visit a local organic tofu farm
Spend the morning at a family-run organic farm where you’ll learn the entire process of traditional tofu-making—from stone grinding soybeans to pressing and slicing. Roll up your sleeves and try it yourself!

Tofu-themed lunch with the farm family
Enjoy a nourishing, multi-dish lunch where tofu is the star—pan-fried, silken, marinated, and steamed—served with fresh garden vegetables and village-grown rice.

Tour a permaculture food forest
Head to a thriving permaculture farm home to over 100 varieties of herbs, fruits, vegetables, and edible flowers. You’ll tour the fields, meet the growers, and handpick ingredients straight from the soil.

DIY vegan treats
Back in the open-air kitchen, work with the farm family to prepare creative vegan snacks using what you just harvested—anything from flower-dusted rice cakes to banana-leaf-wrapped bundles.

Outdoor sunset farm-to-table dinner
As the sun dips behind the hills, sit down to a slow, peaceful outdoor meal. Everything on your plate is fresh, seasonal, and grown just steps away. It’s more than a dinner—it’s a celebration of soil, season, and simplicity.

Sleep under the stars
End the day by camping at the farm beneath a starlit sky. Surrounded by fruit trees, mountain air, and the gentle hum of night insects, this peaceful stay offers a rare chance to reconnect with nature in one of Yunnan’s most nourishing landscapes.

We can commence our plant-based journey anywhere in Yunnan. Kindly ensure your arrival in Yunnan for first dinner and hotel check-in.
